Gut Healing Marshmallows

Nov 17, 2024

Tissss the season for hot chocolate/cocao and allllll the warm coffee.

And idk about you, but I LOVE a good marshmallow.. let's be real, a hot chocolate isn't a hot chocolate without some..

And i LOVE making my own...but these aren't like the ones you get at the grocery store.. these are marshmallows made with MARSHMALLOW ROOT (how they used to be made :( )

Let me tell you about this glorious herb..

Benefits of marshmallow root include:

  • soothes the gut- contains mucilaginous properties that coats/soothes the lining of the GI tract. (can hep with reflux, IBS, leaky gut
  • supports/soothes respiratory tract- helps soothe sore throat, dry cough, bronchitis
  • reduces inflammation- natural anti-inflammatory agent
  • promotes skin healing
  • hydrates + protects

I have no idea why they took real marshmallow out of marshmallows, but we are bringing THEM BACK this year..

These marshmallows are made with gelatin so they are even more gut supportive because gelatin contains glycine, an amino acid that helps boost stomach acid, reduce gut irritation + inflammation, hydrates the gut + helps repair the intestinal wall (important for leaky gut + those with IBD.

And that's why these are a staple in my life! These are sooo good + melt right into any hot drink! If you put in your coffee, it serves as sugar (+ a littleeee cream) - you're welcome.

But without further adieu.. here's the recipe!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 5 tbsp grass-fed beef gelatin
  • 5 egg whites
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp cinnamon (or if you want to make pumpkin spice, use instead or 1/2 and 1/2)

    OPTIONAL (but RECOMMENDED)
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 tbsp marshmallow root

You'll also need a mixing bowl, whisk and silicone cupcake tray or other molds for your marshmallows.

DIRECTIONS:

To make them actual MARSHMALLOWS (with marshmallow root) + get extra gut soothing/healing benefits:

Infuse 1/3 cup of water with 1 tbsp marshmallow root + let sit in the fridge for 4 hrs of overnight (the longer it sits, the greater the mucilaginous/ soothing benefits).

When you're ready to make gummies. start by whisking the egg whites + gelatin in a mixing bowl or use mixer.

Then over low-medium heat, add the remaining ingredients including marshmallow root tea if using until mixed well.

Add mixture to mixing bowl and then whisk or mix until the everything thickens.

Then add mixture to a grease lined baking dish or large gummy molds. Let sit at room temp for a few hours or refrigerate for faster setting!
